New post on how polarization ate our brains. Part one of a series on what's fueling "our" misinformation trifecta: polarization, bad science and puritanism/moralizing.https://zeynep.substack.com/p/how-polarization-ate-our-brains …
Thank you for writing this!

Good read. I wonder how much the proliferation of academic journals with varying standards for peer review lends legitimacy to motivated reasoning evaluations.
I feel like it has been easy to fall into this assumption after they fired the person reporting the numbers though; perhaps I don't have the full story on that?
the polarization killed and injured so many in wv it was coincident w a familiar kind of snobbery, which helps keep ppl here angryhttps://twitter.com/sciencedave_wv/status/1362037342190592014 …
Bullshit. DeSantis *is* patently bad, he previously fired someone for reporting numbers, and it is perfectly rational to assume Florida deaths are much higher than they needed to be, and they are. That's not contradicted by any comparison to other states (many also badly-run).
We’ve all seen the “they’re worthless” takes, often every day. Nobody has ever said anything close to “24/7/365 masks forever!”
